My favorite class at CCSU was Gymnastics. Dr. Capitao is the teacher for Gymnastics and it is only a semester worth. I had never been exposed to gymnastics before this class so it was a whole new experience. I was actually afraid of this class because I used to have a fear of going upside down. The first day that Dr. Cap taught forward rolls, I sat in the corner and watched the class. Although this is a skills class, it involves application and I felt like I was failing. By the end of the semester I didn't mind if I had to do forward rolls all class. This class was important to me because it physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged me. I made choices to progress in the class and my teacher helped me along also. I ended up leaving the class telling Dr. Cap that I wish the class was 2 semesters worth so I could learn more.
Favorite class at ccsu methods of teaching golf because there was not too much work to do and I was able to practice golf which I am still trying to get better at doing.
My favorite class at CCSU has been Dr. Sawyer's exercise physiology class. Although the subject matter is pretty tough, Dr. Sawyer is an amazing teacher. He is one of the smartest people I know and he is very down to earth and knows me and all of his other students very well. I never thought I would be able to learn such a difficult subject matter so easily. Learning about what is involved in simply lifting a dumb bell is mind blowing! It is very cool to have an understanding for how the body works and responds to different situations.
My favorite class here at Central was my Teaching games class. This was one of my favorite classes because we were learning how to teach while enjoying class and playing the games. I also like how we were video taped and we were able to see how we were teaching and what we needed to improve on. Also, at the end of every few weeks we had to create a notebook with everyone's lessons plans it in and descriptions of different games that were played in class. This will help me out later in life because I will have this plethora of lesson plans and games at my hands.
My favorite class at Central so far has been the history of American material culture. The class was a grad/Undergrad class and it was nice being able to talk to older more experienced students while still being treated like equals because we are in the same class. The teacher was also really enthusiastic about what she was teaching and creative about her research. She used a lot of primary sources i would never have thought to use and it made the class exciting. We were excited because she was excited about what she was teaching us.
One of my favorite classes at Central is actually a class I am taking right now, my Learning Theories class. I really enjoy this class because it is very hands on and really focuses on including everyone in the class. The teacher makes everyone feel very comfortable and on the very first day of class had us all wear name tags and jump right into group activities. I think because of the atmosphere the professor has created everyone feels comfortable with one another, even in other classed we all know each others names and feel comfortable asking for help or clarification if we don't understand something. I also really like that I am finally starting to work with students in a real school setting and not simply discussing hypothetical situations anymore. I am finally able to connect material that I have learned in college to the classroom setting and I feel like because of that I am a better learner. In this class we are also forced to be organized with our notebooks which has actually helped to learnt he material and keep track of what we are supposed to know and what is important to take away from her class. The professors enthusiasm is also something that keeps everyone interested in class and paying attention. Overall, this class is extremely effective and possibly one of the best classes I have taken at Central.
A favorite class of mine at Central is one that I am taking now. I really enjoy my Foundations of Education class. We began by discussing how education in our country started and the development it's made to the present day. We are now discussing situations that teacher's are put in throughout their careers. For example, right now we are studying bullying and harassment in schools and how to deal with certain types of situations. This class is one of my favorites because it deals with real life situations and I feel that as much preparation we can get, the better off we will be. I also enjoy this class a lot because of the professor. He is a really nice guy who has the ability to engage for the whole 75 minutes of class and that's pretty hard to do. He realizes when we are starting to disengage and he just tells us a joke or a story about his teaching experience and it brings us all back in. I never find myself dreading going to the class or counting down the minutes until it's over. In all, it's a class I can see myself looking back to when I'm a teacher and using the things he has taught me.
My favorite class at CCSU was a class I took with Professor George last semester. There was no strict curriculum, we basically just discussed current issues in education and had the freedom to choose what topics we wanted to do research on.
My favorite class was EDSC with Dr. Love, last semester. He is the best teacher I had at CCSU, while I was working with my Post-Baccalaurean Certification in Secondary Education. I learned a lot with him about transformative teaching theories (aesthetic, critical, eco-justice, feminine & queer pedagogies). Although he makes his students to work like crazies, since it required countless hours to comply with all the demands of his course, you never get bored in his class because he is very enthusiastic, flexible and a really good human kind!
My favorite class at CCSU was probably Latin American History with Gustavo Mejia because in the US we ignore so much of what happens in the rest of our hemisphere. People don't really realize all the times that the US has intervened in Latin America and don't know all the problems that have resulted because of it. That class also really provides a perspective on different cultures as well as our own.
My favorite class at CCSU was EDTE 313 with Dr. Werblow. This class focused on effective teaching methods, how students learn and how diversity plays a roll in education. What I liked most about this class was how Dr. Werblow centered all lessons on class discussions. We were required to read at home but we always came prepared to share ideas and learn from each other. We also spent time at Diloreto Magnet School working with 8th graders. It was a great experiences being able to connect with them and reflect on in in the classroom. Overall I found that I learned the most in this class because it was interesting and exciting!
